New Year's in the Bahamas
I arrived Treasure Cay on December 29th following the seasons first major snow storm. Keila and her sister Kesia were already there since Christmas day. Prior to my arrival the weather was chilly and windy but the next week was predicted to be sunny and warm. On Wednesday night we went to Italian night at the Bahamian Club on the beach which was very good. Thursday we went to the beach and pizza night at the marina which is always a treat because good pizza is hard to find in the Bahamas. We stayed at the resort in Treasure Cay for New Years eve and watched Dick Clarkes Rock'en New Years Eve and the ball drop in Time Square on the big screen TV. with a Brazilian couple which Keila and Kesia met. The following day we waited for mid tide mid afternoon and sailed to Marsh Harbor and anchored there for the night. Marsh Harbor is the biggest town in the Abacos where most of the commerce is located although there are a few souvenir stores and a very good bar and restaurant located at the Moorings marina. On Sunday we sailed over to Hope Town where we spent Sunday and Monday shopping and sightseeing. We dinghyed out the channel beyond Eagle Rock where we saw some giant Starfish in the sand on the bottom of the most beautiful torquise water. We had lunch at the Hope Town Harbor Lodge overlooking the beach and dinner at the Harbors Edge Restaurant before sailing back to Treasure Cay on Tuesday. This time we made sure to arrive and depart Hope Town at high tide and had no trouble. I left to fly home on Wednesday and Keila and Kesia stayed until the following Saturday. Jasen and his friends are planning to go down 2/9-2/16 and we'll be back again 2/12-2/21.
