Jasen and his freinds Matt & Jenn arrived at the Mai Toi in Treasure Cay ahead of Keila and me on Wednesday February 9th and enjoyed the resort and nice weather until we got there on Saturday to go sailing. By the time we arrived late Saturday afternoon they were already tan and well hydrated. The weather was threatening but they were predicting warm and partially sunny weather for the week ahead. We did some provisioning at the local supermarket and Matt cooked a delicious spagetti dinner onboard the boat.
As predicted the weather was much nicer on Sunday so we sailed to Hope Town. We were able to motor sail close hauled most of the way inspite of a stiff head breeze. We had dinner at the Harbors Edge on Sunday night. Jasen took the dinghy with his friends Matt & Jenn to see the Lighthouse on Monday morning afterwhich we did some sightseeing and went to the Lodge for lunch. After lunch will sailed to Fishers Bay on Guana Cay. We arrived at dusk and couldn't get the anchor to set so as a last resort before dark we picked up a lone mooring. We dinghied into the beach and had Valentines's Day dinner at Nippers. We spent most of the day on Tuesday enjoying the beach at Grabbers before sailing back to Treasure Cay so Jasen and his friends could get ready to go home on Wednesday and we could prepare for Capt. Bob & Marilyn's arrival.
Jasen, Matt & Jenn arrived at the airport in Treasure Cay only to find their flight was cancelled but the airline transferred them to Marsh Harbor where they were still able to make their conection in Ft. Lauderdale Capt. Bob & Marilyn arrived on schedule shortly after Jasen's and his friends departure. Since the weather was so nice we hung around the Treasure Cay on Thursday so Capt. Bob & Marilyn could enjoy the beach. On Friday we sailed to Marsh Harbor first to wait out high tide at Hope Town early the next morning. We did some sightseeing and shopping in the afternoon and had dinner at Curly Tails located at the Mooring's home base.
We picked up anchor early on Saturday moring to make high tide at 8:30 am in Hope Town. We wasted no time renting a golf cart and driving down to the end of Elbow Cay where we found a spectacular beach. On the way back we stopped for lunch and spent the afternoon at the Abaco Inn along the way where the ocean views of the reef's were absolutely breathtaking and there was plenty of sea glass along the beach. We wanted to go to the Lodge for dinner Saturday night but it was closed for a private party so we went to the Harbor's Edge again instead.
We left Hope Town at high tide on Sunday morning and sailed back to Treasure Cay on a beam reach with 10-15 knot winds. I did manage to get the rail in the water coming around to windward to douse the main sail. Sunday night we we had a wonderful stew dinner which Keila prepared in the pressure cooker and we ate on the boat.
Our flight wasn't until late Monday afternoon so we had plenty of time to clean the boat and for Keila and Marilyn to take one last walk on the beach before we left for home. The weather was nice and warm and it was a wonderful Valentine's and President's Day week with everyone.
